Do you really know what’s in the water you drink every day? Water quality can affect far more than taste — certain contaminants can also pose health risks, particularly for children. Choosing cleaner water is one of the simplest ways to take greater control of what your family drinks every day.
There is no such thing as a completely safe level of contamination. In toxicology, it is not only the dose that matters, but also DOSE × TIME.
UK drinking water meets strict regulatory standards, but that does not mean problems never occur. Ageing pipes, infrastructure failures, contamination incidents and older plumbing systems can all affect water quality before it reaches your glass.
A Norwegian study found an 81% increase in the risk of ventricular septal defects among babies whose mothers were exposed to high levels of DBPs (disinfection by-products formed during water treatment).
People exposed to the highest levels of DBPs were found to have a 47% higher risk of developing bladder cancer.
Legionella bacteria can also occur in water systems, particularly in building plumbing where conditions allow them to multiply. Legionella can cause Legionnaires’ disease, a severe form of pneumonia with a reported case fatality rate of around 10–15% in some groups.
Water supplies can also be contaminated by parasitic protozoa such as Cryptosporidium and Giardia, which can cause parasitic diarrhoeal illness and, in vulnerable populations, may lead to serious complications.
Heavy metals such as lead, arsenic, cadmium and mercury can enter drinking water from natural sources, industrial contamination or, in some cases, older plumbing and pipework.
Some heavy metals can accumulate in the body, and long-term exposure may lead to chronic health effects. Children are particularly vulnerable to certain heavy metals, especially lead, which can affect brain and nervous system development.
Pesticides can enter drinking-water sources through agricultural run-off and by leaching through soil into groundwater. Their presence in drinking water can be a health concern, especially with long-term exposure.
Some pesticides are persistent in the environment, and certain compounds or their metabolites may accumulate in the body. Depending on the substance and level of exposure, pesticides have been associated with effects on the nervous system, liver and other organs, and some have been classified as carcinogenic.
In some regions of the world, naturally occurring fluoride levels in water can reach concerning levels. Fluoride plays a role in the mineralisation of teeth and bones, but excessive and prolonged exposure can lead to dental fluorosis and, at much higher levels, skeletal fluorosis.
Research has also examined possible links between long-term high fluoride exposure and neurological effects, including cognitive development, but evidence for conditions such as Alzheimer’s disease or depression is not strong enough to state that fluoride directly causes them. Very high exposure may also affect bones, muscles and other tissues.
Pharmaceutical residues have already been detected in UK drinking water and water sources.
UK monitoring has found substances including carbamazepine, ibuprofen and naproxen in treated drinking water, while British rivers and wastewater have also contained antidepressants, antibiotics, painkillers and hormone-active compounds.
Our bodies do not fully metabolise every medicine we take, and wastewater treatment does not remove every pharmaceutical completely.
Some compounds can persist through treatment and re-enter the wider water cycle.
These contaminants are already measurable in the UK water environment — and their long-term combined effects are still being studied.
We may consume up to 5 grams of microplastics every week, and these particles may also enter the bodies of newborn babies.
Bisphenol A can migrate into water stored in plastic bottles. However, it is not considered harmless to health. It has been associated with:
Phthalates are another group of chemicals associated with plastics. As with BPA, phthalates can migrate from some plastic materials into the water or food they come into contact with. Many phthalates are restricted or banned in certain cosmetic applications, although regulations differ depending on the specific substance and intended use.
Phthalates may be associated with:
The pH scale indicates whether water is acidic (pH 0–6), neutral (pH 7), or alkaline (above pH 7).
Human blood is naturally maintained within a very narrow pH range of around 7.35–7.45. Drinking alkaline water does not directly “balance” or change blood pH in healthy people, because the body tightly regulates this through the lungs and kidneys.
ALKALIA WATER is designed to provide water with an alkaline pH, typically within a range that many people find pleasant for everyday drinking.
The body’s acid–base balance is an important physiological process, but terms such as “body acidification” can be misleading when used to describe normal diet or lifestyle effects. True changes in blood pH are medical conditions and require clinical assessment.
“[…] the cell is immortal! It is merely the fluid in which it lives that degenerates it! By regularly renewing this fluid and providing the cell with the nourishment it requires, it could practically live forever!”

Factors that can affect the body’s acid–base balance include:
Symptoms of a true acid–base imbalance can include fatigue, weakness, headache, confusion, breathing changes and other symptoms depending on the underlying cause.
Oxidation-Reduction Potential, internationally known as ORP, indicates a substance’s ability to gain or lose electrons during chemical reactions.
Why does the ORP of water matter? Because it reflects whether the water has a more oxidising or reducing character. Water with a lower or negative ORP has a greater electron-donating, reducing potential, while water with a higher positive ORP has a more oxidising potential.
Free radicals are highly reactive molecules or atoms with unpaired electrons. When their production exceeds the body’s antioxidant defences, oxidative stress can occur. Maintaining a healthy balance between free radicals and antioxidants is therefore important.
Excessive oxidative stress is associated with cellular damage and can contribute to ageing and a wide range of health conditions, including processes involved in skin ageing.
Water with a lower or negative ORP has a more reducing character. In the case of ALKALIA HEALTHY WATER, its antioxidant potential is linked not simply to the ORP value itself, but to the presence of dissolved molecular hydrogen and other reducing properties of the water.
For this reason, ALKALIA HEALTHY WATER can be described as having antioxidant potential, helping to support the body’s protection against oxidative stress.
I would not keep the claim that it works “6 times better than vitamin C” unless we have a specific study directly supporting that exact comparison.
We often overlook an important characteristic of water — the way its molecules can temporarily associate into clusters.
Tap water and bottled water most commonly form clusters (molecular formations) consisting of 15–20 molecules.
Through the ionisation process, water forms smaller clusters of 5–6 molecules, which are more easily absorbed by our body.
Why does this matter?
Dr Hayashi from the Japanese Water Institute claims that the small molecular structure of ionised water gives it greater penetration and extraction capabilities, allowing it to pass more easily into tissues and cells and to remove toxins from the body more effectively. Drinking this type of water may support detoxification, as it can reach areas that ordinary water cannot.
The additional electrons present in ionised water also contribute to better ionisation of minerals, making them easier for the body to absorb.
For the human body, which is approximately 70% water, drinking healthy water is essential for proper functioning.
Using the highest-quality purification components, ALKALIA HEALTHY WATER effectively removes sediments, heavy metals, chlorine, as well as bacteria, viruses, detergents, pesticides and chemicals. Specially developed purification and enrichment integrators ensure thoroughly purified water.
The ALKALIA HEALTHY WATER revitaliser was created in harmony with nature, bringing the quality of your drinking water as close as possible to that of a mountain stream. It works continuously as water flows through the system, without using electricity to treat the water and without stripping it of its natural minerals simply to achieve extreme pH and ORP values, as many other devices do.
Years of scientific research have led to the creation of the ALKALIA HEALTHY WATER revitaliser.
ALKALIA WATER is a modern solution for producing “living” alkaline water with an increased pH and negative ORP. The revitaliser gives you access to clean, healthy water, free from harmful compounds and highly absorbable by the body.
And all of this in harmony with nature, because water with these properties occurs naturally in mountain streams and healthy springs that people have known and used for generations.
ALKALIA HEALTHY WATER restores water’s natural properties and allows you to drink it straight from the tap, without the need for additional jug filters.
The revitaliser gives you access to clean, healthy water, free from harmful compounds and easily absorbed by the body.
You can drink water straight from the tap and enjoy fresh, great-tasting water without the need for additional jug filters.
